About the Event

Presenter Bio: Dr. Barbara Kapetanakes

Dr. Barbara Kapetanakes has a practice in Sleepy Hollow, NY and specializes in working with adolescents, families going through divorce, and completing assessments for learning disabilities, attention deficits, autistic spectrum disorders, disabilities after traumatic brain injury, stroke, or surgery, and dementia. She also works with all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, and general stress and enjoys working with young adults dealing with the transition to college, and those facing the challenges of career after education.

Dr. Kapetanakes has taught at several of the local colleges and universities at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has supervised post-doctoral Fellows and other early career psychologists.

Dr. Kapetanakes is currently president  of NYSPA and a past-president of the Westchester County Psychological Association, and won their Distinguished Service Award in 2010.  She remains on the WCPA Board as the newsletter editor, Facebook moderator, and was, until Jan 2021, representative to NYSPA Council.  Dr. Kapetanakes spent several years as a member of the Community Services Board through the County Department of Mental Health and was then appointed by Robert Astorino to be a founding member of the county’s Concussion Task Force.  she is also a founding member of NYSPA’s LGBTQ Task Force.

In her spare time she hikes, take photos, rides horses, and enjoys all things involving animals.  She lives in Sleepy Hollow with her husband and a few pets.   She spent her first 25 years in Brooklyn, growing up in Bay Ridge and going to college in Brooklyn (yay CUNY!).
